The beaches of Samana, Dominican Republic
There are hundreds of beaches surrounding the peninsula of Samana. The longest are located on the north, those in the Atlantic Ocean (municipality of Las Terrenas), like Playa Coson, Playa Bonita, Playa Las Terrenas, Playa El Portillo, Playa El Limon, etc. In the town of Las Galeras, there is the best beach in Samana, Playa Rincon. There are also those in the village of Las Galeras, Playa Fronton, etc. Not forgetting the beautiful public beach of Cayo Levantado. Click HERE to see a photo of the province of Samaná with the position of the beaches we visited. The monokini is allowed on the beaches of Samana, but not to the Gran Bahia Principe hotels. A sign clearly indicates the setpoint. About naturism, there is no possibility at the hotels we visited. However, as there are hundreds of beaches in the peninsula, there may be private places that are suitable for an « Au naturel » swimming.
Although the beaches are public in Samana, there are armed guards, on the beaches of the hotels, to control the tourists entering and leaving the hotel's beach. We noticed at the hotel Gran Bahia Principe El Portillo, the guard may request your name, when you leave the area of the hotel.
We were not bothered by sand fleas on the beaches of Samana. Usually these creatures become ravenous at sunset. There are no vendors on the beach. However, people who wish to do shopping, there are paintings, handicrafts and other items at the east end of the beach at the Gran Bahia Principe Cayacoa and west of the Gran Bahia Principe El Portillo. For those staying at the Gran Bahia Cayo Levantado, you have to go to the public beach because sellers are not allowed to go to the private beaches.
