Samaná is located on the coast of the Atlantic Ocean in the northeastern province of the Dominican Republic. Its capital is Santa Bárbara de Samaná. Each year between the months of February and March, humpback whales leave the cold waters of the North Atlantic and swim down to breed near the shores of Samaná. They can be easily seen from the city port. |

This hotel is located 60 minutes from the Samana International Airport and about 15 minutes from the capital of the province of Samana, Santa Barbara de Samana. This Gran Bahia Principe has no pueblo annexed to the hotel, but guests can visit the Pueblo Principe at the village, located facing the Gran Bahia Principe Cayacoa (15 minutes transfer included). It's a pretty little village with colorful shops, bars, restaurants, wireless Internet, medical service 24 hours, bank, disco, etc.. Click HERE to see our photos of this little village. On the hotel ground, there are few shops for buying souvenirs and other items such as rum, water, coffee, etc.. Please note that this hotel is reserved for the 18 years old minimum. It overlooks the beautiful Samana Peninsula, opposite the island of Cayo Levantado. As it is located in a mountain, it is not recommended for people with reduced mobility. The view of the bay of Samaná is breathtaking! Choose rooms on higher floors! It is a small hotel of only 105 superior rooms. Lovers of long walk on the beach will be disappointed because there is only a small beach of 180 meters. If you are looking for a long walk. It would be preferable to choose the Gran Bahia Principe El Portillo. As for GBP Cayacoa, it is possible to snorkel directly from the beach. Wine is the same everywhere in the Bahia Principe hotels in Samana. This is a house brand wine. This is not a great vintage! A dress code is required for men in restaurants, long trousers and sleeved shirt are mandatory. When booking the « A la carte » restaurants, you receive a coupon you must be present at the restaurant for dinner. Unfortunately, the hotel was closed during our visit in April 2010, and we have no photos or videos of the Gran Bahia Principe Samana. Sorry!
